Community Council
Nigg Hall
Nigg Community Council held a meeting at Nigg Old Church back in September to seek
support from local people to review and breathe new life into Nigg Hall.
This is because, due to a series of unfortunate oversights and events the hall had been taken
into ownership by the crown.
It was unanimously decided by approximately 50 people in attendance that we needed to fight
to get it back into the hands of the local community.
A working group was set up and has been meeting regularly since is working hard to reclaim
and revitalise Nigg Hall. A first round Scottish Land Fund Grant has been awarded to pay for a
consultation. Coral Allan is leading this work. You can get in touch with her here:
corallyworally@gmail.com or telephone 07779739637.
Background:
The process has not been as easy as you might expect.
It has been necessary to set up a new community organisation, and to do this requires us to
consider and take on an organisational status with a constitution. We have needed to review
and renew governance arrangements as well as consider financial and organisational
arrangements.
The good news is that we are making good progress!
Charitable status:
The decision has been made to set up as the hall not as a business as it has previously been,
but as a charitable organisation. This will enable us to make better use of the many funding
opportunities that are available for us as we agree and set future learning programmes and
community events.
The purpose of the hall is to advance citizenship and community development and to provide
recreational facilities and activities. We have also agreed that there should be one promoting
and enabling equality and diversity within our neighbourhood.
Paperwork has been sent to OSCR the national register for charities in Scotland.
Membership:
The new organisation requires the membership of local people. We will be seeking support and
active involvement from as many local people as possible to help breathe new life into the hall
and the new activities programme.
To find out how to become a member you can contact the working group.
Nigg Hall became a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) on 3 March 2025. It
is called NIGG COMMUNITY HALL and its charity number is SCO 054021
